Dear Esteemed Special Programs Delegates,
It is my honor to welcome you to the most prestigious program at Harvard Model Congress. In Special Programs, you will encounter exciting political challenges, enthusiastic peers, and engaging chairs that will guide you through the world’s most pressing problems. You will make decisions that determine the very future of our country, and you will experience the results of these decisions firsthand. You will get to use every skill—writing, critical analysis, and teamwork—to meet your committee’s goals. Welcome the world of Special Programs, a world in which you will learn how to solve the dynamic issues facing our country today.
I am consistently impressed by the incredible accomplishments of the committees within Special Programs. Harvard Model Congress is an amazing experience because the delegates are of the highest quality, and they bring enormous enthusiasm and knowledge to their committees every year. Whether you have an interest in politics, history, or communications, there is a committee in which you can apply your talents to solving real problems. If you wish to reestablish the fundamental philosophy supporting our country, join Constitutional Convention, and rewrite our Constitution. If you hope to draft legislation, advise the President, and breach the gap between the Executive Branch and Congress, join the Cabinet or the West Wing. If you crave the intensity and pace of global crises, join the National Security Council, the National Economics Council, or the G-20. If you join District Court or Supreme Court, you will fiercely pursue justice as an attorney, witness, or judge. As a lobbyist, you will work tirelessly to bring your concerns to the attention of lawmakers, and HMC Media will put the events that unfold at the fingertips of the American people. With such a wide variety of committees, I am confident that you will find your place.
Special Programs at Harvard Model Congress is what you make of it. It is up to you to come up with innovative solutions to the important problems facing our country. It is your responsibility to make connections with the other delegates to meet a deadline, pass legislation, or solve a crisis. In order to succeed at the conference, it is essential that you prepare by reading your committee’s briefings, answering your discussion questions, and developing questions of your own. Do not be afraid to take risks or make mistakes, and be sure to take advantage of the amazingly talented people you will meet at the conference—including both your chairs and your fellow delegates. Ask them questions, work with them to solve problems, and most importantly, make friends! The memories you make at Harvard Model Congress will last you for a lifetime.
I look forward to meeting all of you in February, and I cannot wait to see what you will make of Special Programs. I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns; I love hearing from you all.
Good luck on your Special Programs journey, and see you soon!
