Judiciary

Dear Senators,

Welcome to the best committee you will ever be on!  My name is Lukasz Zbylut, and I will be the chair of your committee at HMC 2012.  I am extremely excited about this committee.  It will be a truly unique experience that will foster debate among the various viewpoints and ideas of a kind unseen in the HMC world.  No other committee has ever struck the kind of issue balance my team and I have prepared for you.

We have been perfecting the committee since April of 2011, and I believe that after months of planning, research, and writing, we have designed the best committee possible.  Your HMC experience will be truly instructive.  I hope you will enjoy debating and designing the finer points of law.  Your actions will greatly shape the course of the committee, and as I said, this committee is possibly the most innovative in the history of HMC.  Much has been prepared for you, but the whole experience is yours, and you will have plenty of opportunities to shape the outcome of your deliberations.

I am currently a senior at Harvard, and am jointly concentrating in Government and Philosophy, with a secondary field in Astrophysics.  The topics I have chosen are both current and captivating.  They are at the heart of contemporary judicial concerns.  I truly believe both that you will have fun researching these topics and that they will contribute to a very lively debate about the judicial processes of Congress.  That being said, I expect expert command of the relevant material from each Senator.  In return, I promise that your experience will be unlike any previous experience at Harvard Model Congress you may have had.  You can expect sessions full of intrigue, unexpected developments, strategizing, coalition building, crises, and more!  We are a sizeable group of delegates, and our numbers will permit the debate of numerous issues pertaining to the Committee on the Judiciary.  Occasional visits by national leaders, testimonies by experts and jurists, and events that might change the course of history will make your experience unforgettable.  I only ask that you arrive fully prepared to debate the issues and ready to make new friends.

I expect great things from you, and I am waiting to see all the things you will accomplish during this conference.  I have been anticipating HMC 2012 just as much as you have, and I would love to hear from all of you between now and the start of the conference.  I really do hope that you will take your HMC experience into your own hands.  The study guide I prepared for you is only a starting point for the in depth investigation and analysis of the complex issues you will be presented with.  The more you know, the more you will be able to share with your fellow Senators.  Thorough research will also impress me if it leads to comprehensive and sensible legislation.  Please email me if you have questions about the committee or the topic areas, as I am more than happy to answer them. See you soon, and good luck with your preparations!

Sincerely,

Lukasz Zbylut
