Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to Harvard Model Congress 2012!  I am so excited for HMC this year.  You will all spend awesome weekend learning about important current issues, engaging in political debate, and spending time in Boston.  At the conference, you will have the opportunity to explore your passion for the American government by posing as a US senator and crafting meaningful legislation with students from all over the Nation.  HMC weekend is always really fun and interesting, so get excited!

My name is Diana Powell, and I’m a sophomore living in Lowell House, though I am originally from Austin, Texas.  At Harvard, I am a member of the varsity sailing team, and I plan on concentrating in Astrophysics.  I love traveling, sunny weather, spending time with friends and family, and taking advantage of many excited opportunities at Harvard.  This will be my second HMC conference.  I had a great time co-chairing a committee last year, and I am very enthusiastic about making this year fun for everyone!

Congratulations on being a part of the senate committee of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry!  You are now a part of a very influential and important committee.  Over the course of the conference we will be discussing and writing bills on the issues of food safety and local agriculture.  I hope that you all read the briefings and are interested in these topics!  Our committee has the potential to really improve the lives of everyday citizens and affect real change in our communities.  Have fun with your research on these topics, and I cannot wait to listen to your riveting arguments.

I am thrilled to be chairing the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and I look forward to meeting you at the conference in February.  If you would like to introduce yourself or have any questions before then, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!  I love hearing from my delegates!

Sincerely,
Diana Powell
