Committees

Intelligence

Dear Congressmen and Congresswomen,

Welcome to Harvard Model Congress 2017! Our names are Molly Cinnamon and Will Delaney. We’re thrilled to be staffing the House Select Committee on Intelligence this year!

In this committee, you will explore, discuss, and debate issues at the core of the United States Intelligence Community. Living in an age of Edward Snowden and the constant threat of cyber attacks from foreign actors, there is no more exciting time to be addressing these issues. We will cover two topics – 1) Social Media Encryption and 2) The Ethics of Spying on Allies.

Given the innate tension of privacy and security, this will no doubt be a thrilling weekend. We look forward to hearing you debate issues that affect every American, allowing you to step into a decision-making role that forces you to think creatively and flexibly when unexpected crises arise.

We hope to bring you a better understanding of American government – the trials, the tribulations, the rewards, and the honor of making choices that affect the nation. In a time that seems more polarized than ever, it’s so important to learn how to collaborate while still upholding your representative’s ideals.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us – we’re happy to help. See you in February – we’re so looking forward to meeting you.

Best,
Molly Cinnamon and Will Delaney
