Judiciary

Dear Senators,

Welcome to Harvard Model Congress 2017! My name is Alena Farber, and I can’t wait to see you in the Senate Judiciary Committee this year!

As part of this committee, you will help shape the judicial system of the United States, making sure that every citizen is fairly afforded the same rights and opportunities. This year, Senate Judiciary will be discussing issues such as for-profit prisons and gun control on college campuses.

Beyond committee, HMC will be a unique opportunity for you to experience the legislative branch of American government and meet other students from across the country (and world!) who share your passion for politics. You will be exposed to a wide diversity of opinions, and you will have the chance to broaden and question your own perspective on topical issues. You will also get to explore Boston and the Harvard campus!

As your chair, I’m excited to make your HMC experience both intellectually stimulating and a ton of fun. A bit about me:

I’m a senior in Leverett House (the best house) concentrating in Computer Science. I was born in Ukraine but am now a proud resident of New Jersey. At Harvard, I also captained the Harvard Mock Trial team. In my free time, I like watching TV, playing around in Photoshop, and hanging out with my friends.

Feel free to shoot me an email at any point to introduce yourselves and ask any questions you may have between now and the conference. I encourage you to start stepping into your roles as senators by staying attuned to current events and keeping an ear out for developments in the regions we will be focusing on in February.

I look forward to meeting you and hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,

Alena Farber
