Welcome to Harvard Model Congress 2012 and the House Financial Services Committee! My name is Maria Theophanous, and I am very excited to serve as your committee chair this year! We will have some very interesting issues to discuss in committee, and the entire Model Congress staff is working really hard to make sure that all of you have an amazing weekend in February.
I would like to take this opportunity to quickly introduce myself. I am a junior living in Pforzheimer House concentrating in Economics. I am originally from Lafayette, CA, about 30 minutes outside of San Francisco. Besides Model Congress, I am also a part of Model UN, the Harvard International Review, and the Hellenic Society (I’m ethnically Greek ‒ just take a glance at my last name). In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and pretty much any other outdoor sport, listening to music and singing (not well as my roommate can tell you), and exploring Boston/Cambridge.
HMC 2012 will be amazing! Our committee debate will be focused on the topics of Foreclosure Relief and The Cuban Embargo, two very pressing and significant issues for the United States. Please read the briefings, updates and summaries. Also, prepare for your roles so we can have a lively and effective debate during conference. Until then, if any of you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me. I am very excited to serve as your chair this year, and I look forward to meeting all of you in February!
Sincerely,
