Armed Services

Dear Delegates,

I am honored to welcome you to the House Committee on Armed Services!  My name is Matt Marotta, and I will be your committee chair for this coming session.  Everyone on the HMC staff has worked hard to brainstorm new and improved ideas for the 2012 conference, and I am looking forward to sharing what promises to be an incredible experience with you all!

My experience with HMC started back when I was in high school.  During my sophomore year, a friend told me about this great program he enrolled in called Harvard Model Congress, and  he urged me do it with him.  I signed up, went to the conference, and have been hooked ever since!  Since then, I have been in both the House and the Senate (House was by far the best!) and have covered topics ranging from the Iraq War to international drug trafficking.  My hope is that you will each take advantage of everything that HMC has to offer, both inside and outside of the conference.  Whether it’s participating in a heated debate or touring the Harvard campus, our conference offers so much, and I hope that you will enjoy it all!

In closing, let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I am from Winchester, Massachusetts, which is a suburb about twenty minutes from Boston. Yes, I have a pretty thick Boston accent! I graduated from Winchester High School in 2010, and am currently a sophomore at Harvard, living in Kirkland House.  I am concentrating in either Economics or Government, or some combination of the two.  Outside of school, I enjoy running, swimming, playing the trumpet, and serving on the Undergraduate Council, Harvard’s student government organization.

Again, I am so excited to meet each and every one of you in February!  In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

Best,

Matt Marotta
