Welcome to the House Appropriations Committee! My name is Lauren Williams, and I will be your committee chair this year. I am a sophomore at Harvard concentrating in Government.
I am thrilled to be serving as a chair this year, and I hope you are all excited for HMC 2012! As members of the Appropriations Committee, you will be asked to confront some of the most difficult and controversial questions of our time. This experience will allow you to think critically, forge a consensus, and turn your thoughts and opinions into policy—in short, you will get a taste of how our legislature works every day. You will meet intelligent and engaged students from around the country with whom you can collaborate and share ideas, and HMC Boston will let you gain a better understanding of the issues facing the country. Of course, there will be plenty of free time where you will be able explore Harvard and the thriving city of Boston!
Please remember to read and review the briefings before the conference. I look forward to an interesting and vigorous debate, and I invite you all to email me with any questions you may have. Most of all, get ready for a great weekend. I look forward to meeting you all at HMC Boston 2012!
Sincerely,
