Welcome to Harvard Model Congress, and welcome to House Foreign Affairs! Our names are Tanner Gildea and Theresa Byrne, and we will be your co-chairs for the committee.
If you are anything like us, you will love serving as representatives in House Foreign Affairs. Focused on international relations from the perspective of the United States, the committee deals with issues ranging from state relations, security and economic policies to international development and foreign aid. It also consistently interacts with other members of the government, including the Executive, the press, and many interest groups and experts. The committee plays a crucial role in situating the United States in the international world order.
In terms of how you will spend your time as representatives, we want to make it clear that you need not be an expert in the world of foreign relations nor an expert in parliamentary procedure. Ample time will be provided to brush up on each topic and how parliamentary procedure works within committee, so do not stress. All that we ask is for you to come to the conference willing to work with your other representatives in discussing, articulating, and aiming to address these substantial issues. And be ready for some fun, too!
Please feel free to reach out to either of us prior to the conference with any questions you may have, whether specific to our committee or HMC in general.
We look forward to meeting you.
