Committees

Transportation and Infrastructure

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to Harvard Model Congress 2017!

Our names are Shaun Gohel and Samuel Oh, and we’ll be your co-chairs for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee this year.

In this committee, you’ll have the chance to take on the role of legislators and learn about the inner workings of the U.S. House of Representatives. This year, we’ll be focusing debate on two important issues facing the United States: texting and driving laws, as well as America’s growing number of failing bridges. As Congressmen and Congresswomen on this committee, you must find ways to balance the interests of many different groups when crafting legislative solutions. Yes, it will be challenging, but also incredibly rewarding.

Beyond committee, you will have the opportunity to experience U.S. Congress as a wider whole, gaining important insights into the way this kind of democracy functions. In order to contribute to the best of your ability, we encourage you to research the position of your assigned congressperson. Spend time understanding their values and stances on these and related issues, and consider the ways these opinions form. We’re confident that with the right preparation, you will make the most of your experience and learn so much throughout the conference weekend!

As your chairs, we’re committed to making your HMC experience as intellectually stimulating and fun as possible. Feel to reach out to us if you have any questions or just want to get to know us better.

We’re so excited to meet you, and hope you’re as pumped for the conference as we are!

Best,

Shaun and Sam
