Welcome to Harvard Model Congress 2017! Our names are Brandon Wang and Matt Webb, and we will be serving as your chairs for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Although you may not realize it yet, you are indeed some of the most influential policymakers in the world and it will be your task to shape the legislative direction of the United States. The decisions you make in this committee and full session will affect the prosperity and the well-being of citizens across the country.
During this conference, you will get first-hand experience in the workings of lawmaking. This simulation provides you the opportunity to witness a bill stemming from your idea, progressing to a committee-negotiated bill, and entering the Full Senate and House chambers. As your senior staffers, we hope to offer you a transformative experience in which you will hone your negotiating, speaking, and argumentative skills. Most importantly, we hope you learn about the United States government and policy issues shaping our world as we deal with air security and online payment systems.
As your senior staffers, we hope to make your experience at this session of Harvard Model Congress an excellent one. A little about ourselves:
Brandon is a sophomore at Harvard College studying statistics, government, and computer science. He is a passionate advocate for education reform and founded several non-profits. He also works at a startup and, in his free time, enjoys squash and cycling.
Matthew is senior concentrating in Computer Science with a secondary in Economics. He has been involved with government simulation since his freshman year in high school. At Harvard, he teaches pregnancy prevention to Boston high school students, participates in Harvard’s black men’s forum, and manages custodial crews.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the conference, briefings, or anything else. We are extremely excited to be working with all of you!
